Virtual Reality Phobia Clinic

Here at VRPC our clinical team develop individualized evidence-based psychological treatment plans for our clients, incorporating cutting-edge technology. Virtual reality (or VR) technology creates a 3D world for you to experience images as if you were in a real place, giving you the chance to practice facing their fears virtually, as part of graded exposure.

What we do

We bring the outside in! We bring the outside world into the therapy clinic! We help you face your fears from the comfort of our office space in a collaborative and planned way.

Through the use of virtual reality (VR) we help our clients face their fears. Whether the fear is of vomiting, snakes, or blood tests, we collaboratively develop individualized evidence-based psychological treatment plans for our clients, which incorporate the use of cutting-edge VR technology.

What we treat

We treat a wide range of presentations at the Virtual Reality Phobia Clinic. Specific phobia is a common mental disorder with a cross-national lifetime prevalence of 7.4%. Phobias all have the same core symptom – an excessive reaction to fear.

There are over 400 phobias, however specific phobias typically fall within five general categories:

  • fears related to animals (spiders, dogs, insects)
  • fears related to the natural environment (heights, thunder, darkness)
  • fears related to blood, injury, or medical issues (injections, broken bones, falls)
  • fears related to specific situations (flying, riding an elevator, driving)
  • other (fear of choking, loud noises, drowning)

Significant research has demonstrated the benefits of Virtual Reality Therapy to enhance existing psychological therapies.
